Route from Johannesburg via Warden:

Travel along the N3 towards Durban. At Warden, exit the N3 and follow the R714 to Bethlehem. At Bethlehem, turn left onto the N5 and drive through Bethlehem towards Harrismith. Outside Bethlehem, turn right onto R712. Clarens is about 30 km (about 25 minutes) from Bethlehem.

Alternative Route from Johannesburg via Heilbron:

Follow the R59 and pass Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark. Outside Sasolburg turn left onto the R57 and pass Heilbron and Petrus Steyn. Outside Reitz turn right onto the R26 and follow the route to Bethlehem. At Bethlehem, turn left onto the N5 and drive through Bethlehem towards Harrismith. Outside Bethlehem, turn right onto R712. Clarens is about 30 km (about 25 minutes) from Bethlehem.

Route from Durban (400 Km):

Travel along the N3 (towards Johannesburg) but exit left at Harrismith (298 km from Durban) onto the N5. Pass through Harrismith and turn left onto the R712 and travel towards Phutaditjhaba. This route will take you through the scenic Golden Gate Highlands National Park, and on to Clarens.

Alternative Route from Durban (370 Km):

Travel along the N3 (towards Johannesburg). Exit the N3 shortly after the Shell Ultra-City north of Estcourt, onto the R74. You will pass through Winterton, Bergville, and then make your way up the Oliviershoek Pass. You eventually come to a T junction where you turn left onto the R712 to Phutaditjhaba and The Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Clarens is 105km from Harrismith.

Recommended Route from Bloemfontein (280 Km):

Travel along the N1 towards Johannesburg. After Winburg, take the N5 towards Bethlehem. Go through Bethlehem but turn right onto the N5 (signposted to Durban). About 8 km out of Bethlehem, turn right onto the R712. Clarens is about 30 km (about 25 minutes) from Bethlehem.
